Founders’ Day and Old Boys’ Dinner 2017

6pm: Old Boys’ Society Annual General Meeting, School Library
From 7pm: Annual Dinner in the School Refectory

About this year’s Dinner

The annual Founders’ Day service and Old Boys’ Society Dinner is back to its usual place this year on the second Saturday of December, so the date this year is Saturday 9th December 2017 .

The guest speaker this year is former pupil Mr Tony Barrett.

Tony was at Ermysted’s from 1967 to 1974 and was the Head Boy in 1973-74. He is also currently the Chair of Governors at EGS.

What happens at the Old Boys’ Dinner?

OBD2014-13As well as lots of drinks and a three-course meal┬áthere will be plenty of opportunity to catch up with old schoolmates, masters and headmasters. The incoming Chairman of the Old Boys’ Society, David Clough, will make a speech – as will the Headmaster, Michael Evans, to update Old Boys on news from the school. The guest speaker will talk about his memories of Ermysted’s as well as sharing some anecdotes from his life. Towards the end of the night there’ll be some singing to join in with if you’d like to – school tunes such as Forty Years On and Men of the Uplands always go down well after a few drinks! Our MC for the whole night is legendary EGS master Ian ‘Adge’ Douglass (1968-2004).

dinner2016_2There’ll be beer (including hand-pulled real ale again this year), wine, soft drinks and a small selection of spirits available to buy from the cash bar. We also have a variety of other items for sale to help raise funds for the Old Boys’ Society which contributes to the running of the school – these include cufflinks, ties, books and pin badges.

There will be donation envelopes on the tables as usual too, so if you are able to make a financial contribution to our appeal fund then this would be very much appreciated.
